What's in Your Life Toolkit?
Angela Burgess | SEP 9, 2023
I was leading a group of postpartum moms & babies last week and heard these words come out my mouth, "Parenthood is a Practice and Yoga is a Tool". Do you ever have those moments when you say something and then are like, "Wow, did I just say that?"
I've been thinking a lot about that phrase this week and it's been super potent. Parenthood currently rules my life. It's a state of being that I am constantly learning about. It's the big umbrella that covers everything else. Yoga is one of the tools I use in my life to help me skillfully navigate the practice of parenthood. When I say yoga, I'm not simply talking about asana, but the entire system of yoga.
Experimenting with embodiment of yogic practices helps me more fully embody the entirety of my life. Parenthood in it's essence is often chaotic and messy. Practicing yoga helps me hone the inner stillness so that the outer world doesn't totally throw me in a tailspin.
This phrase also made me wonder, what else is in my Life Toolkit? Here are a few of my essentials: time in nature, dancing, making time for adult connection, reading, acupuncture, being in water, prioritizing sleep, and simply doing something for the fun of it without need of a purpose (aka Adult Play).
How does yoga help you in your own life? What else is in your Life Toolkit?
I invite you to make a list of these things and then find a way to work them into your life more often.
Parenthood is a Practice. Yoga is a Tool. And the more tools we have, the more supported, skillful, and happy we become. I'd love to hear what supports, heals, and nourishes you!
