Space For Grace

With the increasing strength of the sun and a noticeable shift into spring, I have been thinking about Grace. With the growing daylight, I feel a reprieve from winter’s isolation and a sense of renewal. A chance to begin again. After the long nights of winter, the warm and expansive sun rays feel like a divine gift.

One definition of grace is “unmerited divine assistance given to humans for their regeneration”. As a mother, I can think of many ways I offer grace to my children and loved ones. It’s pretty much built into my motherly DNA. I’m very good at offering, but when it comes to receiving, not so much.

This makes me wonder:

What does grace feel like for me?

How can I make space for grace?

In this moment, grace feels like sunlight on my skin. Perhaps I can begin again simply by placing my feet on the earth and tilting my face toward the sun. Perhaps a portal of grace opens when I offer small quiet moments like this to myself. Not out of some sense of obligation, reward, or merit, but simply for the sake of my own renewal and regeneration. A divine gift I offer myself.

In my classes this month, I’m exploring the theme of Grace. In the way of an embodied thematic exploration, I invite you to make a little space in your day to sit in the sunlight, close your eyes, and breathe. Perhaps pick a simple restorative yoga pose and let the sunlight infuse and inspire you. Or simply lie down on the ground and receive the grace of the earth’s embrace. Notice what moves you toward grace and then make more space for that.

Even after all this time

The sun never says to the earth,

“You owe Me."

”
Look what happens with A love like that,

It lights the Whole Sky.

With Love & Grace,
