No Mud, No Lotus
Angela Burgess | FEB 7, 2023
This week I have been working with the symbol of the Lotus flower. As a symbol of divine illumination, the Lotus, or Padma in Sanskrit, also represents purity. Paradoxically, the lotus requires mud and murky waters to make its graceful ascent toward the light.
I'm inspired by this because it is a simple metaphor for life. Many times I find myself wishing the mud and murky waters away, instead hoping for clarity. It is when I connect to my roots, to the mud, to the challenges I'm facing that growth and clarity happen.
Tantra teaches us to turn toward our shadows and embrace them so that we can transform them. In this way, it is the murky places, the challenges that actually become the portal to clarity. What challenges are you facing in this moment? Maybe it's finding space in your body as your baby grows. Maybe it's finding a moment to yourself as your baby cries.Â
Whatever your challenge, I invite you to turn your attention to the breath.
Fully inhale and fully exhale.Â
Allow space for your thought and feelings.
As you continue in your rhythm, let the breath caress each challenge.
Notice how this partnership awakens the possibility for deeper clarity.
Join me this week as we practice with the symbol of the Lotus to assist your own unique transformational journey in the waters of motherhood and beyond.
