Find Alignment in Pregnancy & Parenting

I’ve been thinking about the subtleties of alignment. In yoga, we often give instructions for how to make shapes in our bodies, but there are subtle alignment experiences that also exist.
When I was pregnant, I remember feeling like I had lost my alignment anchor. All the ways that I was used to creating and maintaining my bodily shapes were changing and I felt lost at sea.
In nature, when the moon, sun, and earth are in alignment (aka Full & New Moons), the Seas have higher tides. The moon also affects our bodies. In my body, I’ve noticed more tension during times of both full and new moons.
Offering ourselves space and time to notice how we are feeling in a given moment is one way to connect to the more subtle alignment experiences.
In this moment, what does alignment feel like in my body?
In this pose, what new pattern could support my experience?
With pregnancy, perhaps it means taking a wider stance in a standing pose or stretching your breath through your side body. Loosen your mental grip on the way something “should” look and shift into the subtle realm of personal experience and intuitive awareness.
We are always changing, especially in the throes of pregnancy and parenthood. Exploring physical & subtle alignment in our bodies may create discomfort as we learn to engage in different patterns. It takes patience, persistence, and practice to change our patterns.
